Dancing with the
CHARLESTON CHASERS

On Saturday 28th December 1991 I went to the Village Hall at Little Compton, Oxfordshire to experience some traditional jazz.

The trad. jazz was being supplied by a band called THE CHARLESTON CHASERS whom had as a member my Step-Uncle NICK SMITH.

At the time THE CHARLESTON CHASERS were:-

• SEAN BOLAN - Cornet / Euphonium
• NICK SMITH - Cornet / Tenor Saxophone
• NIK PAYTON - Clarinet / Alto Saxophone / C Melody Saxophone / Baritone Saxophone
• CLAIRE MURPHY - Clarinet / Bass Clarinet / Alto Saxophone / C Melody Saxophone
• DEBBIE ARTHURS - Clarinet / Alto Saxophone / Percussion / Vocals
• ANDY LEGGETT - Clarinet / Tenor Saxophone / Banjo / Tenor Guitar / Vocals
• RAINA REID - Piano / Harmony Vocals / Chief Arranger
• PHILIP SMITH - Guitar
• MALCOLM SKED - Sousaphone
• NEIL IONS - Percussion / Vocals

As well as playing the music two members of the band would perform the various dances such as THE CHARLESTON.
